Linspire Live! is an evaluation copy and is intended for users who are using an existing software like WindowsXP and want to see Linspire running on their PC WITHOUT ANY CHANGES TO THE EXISTING OPERATING SYSTEM. You can even run Linspire Live WITH YOUR HARD DISK DISCONNECTED!

You can either download it or get it in CD format (see sidebar).

We know you are eager to proceed but we recommend you go through this easy checklist before attempting to download:

• Reliable Broadband connection whether via LAN, DSL, Cable Modem, WiFi
• PC with Internet connectivity (OS is assumed to be WindowsXP), and 700Mb free harddisk space
• Blank CD-Recordable (CD-R)
• CD Writer and CD burning software that can accept an ISO image as input

Note: Because Linspire Live runs purely from CD and memory, powering down your computer means you have to reload Linspire Live (about 30 minutes) the next time you use your PC. Linspire Five-O, the full, faster running version, installs on the harddisk - you only need to install it once, in as little as 10 minutes on a Pentium 4 machine.

4-STEP PROCEDURE

1. Click here to download the CD ISO file.

2. Consult your CD writing software manual on how to burn this onto a CD-R. CAUTION: DO NOT simply copy the ISO file to a CD-R.

3. Set your PC to boot from the CD drive first through the BIOS settings. You will normally see a message on your computer how to enter the BIOS settings when you are booting up your computer.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen. Upon completion, Linspire launches a multimedia tutorial player that will get even the most novice computer user performing a wide range of computing tasks. The "How-To" tutorials cover everything from simple desktop navigation, to setting up a wireless Internet connection. Try it yourself and see!

DOWNLOAD OPTION 2: VIA TORRENT (REQUIRES PRE-INSTALLATION OF THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE)

8-STEP PROCEDURE

1. Before you can download, you must have the proper software in place. This is because the CD ISO image is so large at nearly 700Mb that FTP servers will be unable to serve requests given the demand. The alternative technology is BitTorrent. (See sidebar for more information). For Microsoft Windows, a BitTorrent program that can be used is called BitTornado. Download it using the link below and follow installation instructions.

2. Go to http://media.linspire.com/cnr_linspirelive/ and click Download

3. You may or may not encounter the following message, depending on your security settings. If you see this message, click on Unblock.

4. The download will begin. Note the file size (645.95Mb)

5. When download finishes, you will have an ISO image of the Linspire Live! CD. Before proceding to burn the image, verify the integrity of the ISO file first. Please refer to http://www.linspire.com/faq.php?faq=faq343

Linspire networking properties can be configured without rebooting, thus, even of you are just using Linspire Live!, you can actually configure it to access the Internet through your LAN. It also recognizes USB Flash (a.k.a. "Thumb drives") so you can try saving and opening files such as DOC and XLS to and from a WindowsXP machine.
