DETAILS
1.
What are the System Requirements for Linspire? The
higher the processor and memory, the faster Linspire will
run. You need at least Pentium 3 800Mhz or equivalent with
128Mb RAM and 4Gb Hard disk. We recommend P4 with 256M RAM.
- Hard
drive with 4 GB free space
- SVGA
or higher resolution and monitor (3D graphics accelerator
card for some games, screen savers, etc.)
- CD-ROM
or DVD drive, Keyboard &- Mouse (USB or PS2, not serial)
- Linspire-compatible
sound card and speakers or headphones
- Linspire-compatible
56 Kbps hardware modem, cable modem, or DSL modem
- Ethernet
card for Internet/LAN connectivity
NOTE:
Linspire CX requires higher System Requirements - this is
not because of Linspire CX in itself rather, it is to comply
with the requirements of the games themselves. In addition
to higher processor, higher memory and higher HD requirements,
the video card must be of nVidia GeForce class, e.g. Tornado
GeForce FX 5200.

2.
Are there hardware compatibility issues? Can it autodetect?
Linspire has super autodetect capabilities and installs drivers
automatically. For the Hardware Compatibility List, see http://www.linspire.com/linspire_hardware_compatibility.php.
Note that there are lots of hardware that are supported but
not on the list - this is because devices share common drivers.
To completely be at ease, you can run a trial copy of Linspire,
which we call Linspire Live!, available
as a free download to test hardware. We have known issues
with serial mouse (PS/2 and USB are fine) and Nvidia Vanta
video cards (other Nvidia card are fine).
Linspire
can run on 32-bit and 64-bit machines.

What is CNR? CNR CNR stands for "click and run".
It is a software delivery service designed for Linspire users
that makes it easy to install additonal software. With the
CNR Service you can install more than 2,000 free software
titles direct from the CNR Warehouse - all with just a single
click. Simply click the software you want and it installs
on your computer and is ready to run. You also get a powerful,
easy way to manage your entire software library. Like customizable
aisles where you can install entire groups of software with
a single click. Perfect for setting up a new computer! CNR
is a paid service but for registered Philippine users, Linspire
has granted free access! More about CNR
here.
There
are very interesting software in CNR including a Point of
Sale/Stire Management, Bar Code Printing, and even tools to
put a WindowsXP desktop right in your Linspire. See Item 4
below.

4.
Can it run my WindowsXP programs and games?
This
question is best answered by questions as well! The first
question is WHAT, not WHAT PROGRAMS, rather, WHAT DO YOU WANT
TO DO? For example, you may use Microsoft Word but you DONT
need to run it on your Linspire - Linspire already has a Word
Processor that looks and acts like Microsoft Word and has
file compatibility. Its part of the Open Office 2.0 suite.
Another ilustration of this point is if you can run say, Dreamweaver
on Linspire - the real question actually is can I author websites
in Linspire? And the answer is YES. Software in the CNR are
classified by functionality so you can actually get software
based on WHAT YOU WANT to do.
Simply
put, you have FREE alternatives to expensive Windows-based
Programs BUT IF YOU REALLY DEFINITELY, POSITIVELY RUN WINDOWS
PROGRAMS, you can actually install some assortment of software
using WindowsAPI implementation in Linspire called Wine (included
free as part of CNR). Success varies from program to program
but for for better compatibility, you can Linspire XO and
Linspire CX.
Linspire
XO is the Linspire Version recommended for
Corporations and Large Enterprises. It allows you
to actually install selected Windows programs DIRECTLY on
your Linspire XO machine so you can run Microsoft Office 2003,
XP, 2000 and 97, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft
PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook*, Microsoft Internet Explorer,
Microsoft Access *, Microsoft Project, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft
Visio, Lotus Notes 5.0 and 5.1, Quicken, iTunes, FrameMaker
Various Web Browser Plugins, QuickTime, Shockwave Director,
Windows Media Player 6.4 and more.
For
Gaming, we recommend Linspire CX. Linspire
CX is the Linspire Version for Internet Cafes.
As exhibited in our two events last September 11-13 and September
26-27, it has full support for World of Warcraft, Guild Wars
and Diablo II. More are being tested. The gaming solution
is, however, available only for Internet/Gaming Cafe businesses
(Volume License only, 10 and up) and not to individual license
purchases.
Another
interesting point is this: If you have one (1) WindowsXP in
the network, any of all Linspire machines on the same office
LAN/network, are capable of doing this amazing feat picture
below ... using a simple software free from CNR!

It
allows you to access the WindowsXP Desktop (it takes advantage
of the Fast Switching feature of non-Domain connected WindowsXP
and a very small add-on program). It is ideal for offices
(not for gaming). The technology is capable of supporting
up to 10 concurrent users - but as per Microsoft licensing,
you can do this one at the time. This at least reduces your
dependency to Windows XP required to just 1 machine - the
rest can go to Linspire or Linspire XO and take full advantage
of the softwares in CNR.

license will depend primarily on the intended use, and secondarily,
on the volume. Whatever is applicable for you, it is the same
software. It is the allowable use for the software that changes
depending on your purchase. The lowest price for single licenses
is P 2,395, the highest is P 3,395 for Linspire XO. Its still
a far cry from the cost of WindowsXP plus Microsoft Office
- to see the price comparison, click here.
